A letter to God resulted in Santa´s airlift

On Christmas Eve a father desperate to save the live of his young daughter walked into the office of CNN in Baghdad with a letter in his hand addressed to God.

It was the 24th December 1997 when Iraq was under siege by western military powers with sanctions forbidding imports of urgently needed medical supplies. His daughter was dying because no medicine was available in the whole country for this innocent victim of geopolitics.

A father´s desperate call for Help

Peter Arnett from CNN with Santa in Baghdad.

The desperate call for Help was heard by a Christian charity in the Netherlands who swiftly acted by contacting Peace2000 to airlift the little girl out of Iraq.

Three days later Santa landed in Baghdad with an aircraft filled with gifts and as he stepped off the plane he shouted: “Stop killing my children”. “Violence leads to more violence. Stop using children in politics.”

Little girl airlifted to Amsterdam

After distribution of the gifts to Iraqi children in cooperation with the RedCross/RedCrecent Santa took the little girl in his arms and airlifted her to Amsterdam onboard the PEACE2000 aircraft where an ambulance waited to take her to hospital for treatment.

The Santa peace flight touched the hearts of millions of people around the world. Santa’s magic resulted in tens of thousands of students around the world protesting a second war on Iraq being planned by the Clinton administration. Their attempts to gather international support for another war on Iraq collapsed following these protests.

Humanitarian award to PEACE2000

Making a differenceThe Greek orthodox church awarded Peace2000 their humanitarian award at the nomination of UNESCO and when asked why, they told us that they think the Santa peace flight averted a second war breaking out in their neighboring country.

Santa’s magic has never been more important than now. The story of Saint Nicholas who in the third century who was born into a wealthy family and used his whole inheritance to assist the needy, the sick and the suffering and became known as Santa Claus is our inspiration to fly in his name to bring a light of hope and peace to where it is most needed today.
